TORONTO — The Ontario General Contractors Association has released the new OGCA Guide to Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåion and Design Technology, intended to give general contractors an understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other areas of construction design technology.
The guide is the product of the OGCA’s BIM/VDC Taskforce, which consulted with industry and subject-matter experts on advanced construction and design techniques over two years, states a Sept. 30 release. The guide focuses on BIM, reality capture and geographic information systems.
Taskforce members included EllisDon, PCL Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåion, Matheson Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåors, Pomerleau, Kenaidan Contracting Ltd., Eastern Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåion, Collaborative Structures Limited and Bird Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåion.
Tyler Holditch served a chair of the taskforce.
“As projects increase in complexity, general contractors will have to communicate and collaborate across design, construction and management,” said Erich Schmidt, OGCA innovation manager, in a statement. “Our focus was to help our members learn more about BIM and VDC (virtual design and construction). That is why we started at the ground level and provided an explanation of the benefits of investing in this technology and the resources required to use BIM efficiently and effectively.”
The OGCA will be hosting a webinar on Building a BIM Team featuring members of the BIM/VDC Taskforce at a later date.
The Daily Commercial News will have more on this story.
