OTTAWA — Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåion industry leaders recently descended on Parliament Hill for the (CCA) Hill Day, reiterating their stance that the federal government must cut unnecessary red tape in order to bolster the country’s critical infrastructure demand.
Outdated procurement strategies, labour shortages and the lack of adequate investment are barriers that prevent the industry from reaching its full potential, states a release from the association.
As such, during Hill Day, industry leaders pushed for three key items:
- Investing in long-term infrastructure, with a focus on housing, transportation and trade-enabling projects.
- Growing the construction workforce to address critical labour shortages.
- Modernizing procurement processes and cutting unnecessary red tape.
“It’s not promises that build the economy – it’s construction. It drives growth, creates jobs and builds and maintains the essential infrastructure we all depend on,” says Rodrigue Gilbert, CCA president, in a statement. “To secure Canada’s future, we need to invest in infrastructure, expand our workforce and modernize procurement. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient Canada.”
Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåion contributes $162 billion annually to Canada’s GDP and employs over 1.6 million Canadians, the release adds.
