Ontario to help laid-off workers

Ontario Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton has scheduled an announcement about training supports for laid-off and unemployed workers this morning. The session will take place in Windsor at 9:30 a.m.

Non-residential construction up slightly in May

Investment in building construction cooled slightly in May, decreasing 1.9 per cent to $19.4 billion, Statistics Canada reported yesterday. This was the first drop in seven months. Non-residential construction increased 0.6 per cent to $4.7 billion in May with investment in commercial construction up 0.8 per cent to $2.6 billion. Ontario continued to lead that component with multiple high-value construction projects in the works across the province. Institutional investment continued to grow for the seventh consecutive month, up 1.2 per cent to $1.2 billion.

Park Hyatt Toronto to reopen in September

Park Hyatt Toronto and Oxford Properties today announced that the restored Park Hyatt Toronto will reopen its doors in September. The restoration is part of a wider redevelopment of the site into mixed uses by Oxford Properties. The project has created 65 luxury rental apartments at , in the heritage-designated south tower. The complex will also feature 20,000 square feet of retail over two floors in the restored south tower with frontage along both Bloor Street and Avenue Road.

Additive manufacturing creates first Airbnb rental

Twente Additive Manufacturing today announced that its Fibonacci House, manufactured by the additive manufacturing process and billed as Canada’s first 3D printed home, is now available for vacation rental. Twente said the house is also the world’s first Airbnb-listed “3D Printed Concrete Tiny Home.†The Fibonacci House was created using a concrete additive manufacturing process designed and sold by Twente, a Dutch start-up founded in 2018. The house is located in Nelson, B.C.
