BREAKING: Ontario glaziers ratify ICI deal, end strike

Glaziers working in Ontario’s ICI sector have ratified a three-year contract proposed by their employers, leaving only painters and tapers, who have agreed to binding arbitration, insulators and teamsters among Ontario’s 25 ICI trades without a deal.Ìý

Some 500 glaziers, members of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), had been on strike since June 13. The ratification vote taken June 29 resulted in 73 per cent support for the latest contract offer.ÌýÌý

Under the deal, Toronto workers will earn $7 more over three years, representing a 12.4 per cent pay hike. The contract features varying travel zone expense increases depending on the Ontario zone.ÌýÌý

Painters and tapers, also IUPAT members, agreed to contract arbitration June 12, ending their two and a half week old strike.ÌýÌý

Last week the sprinkler fitters ratified their province-wide agreement, negotiated nationally, with a pay raise effective May 1. The sprinkler fitters will receive $9 pay hikes over three years, representing a gain of approximately 14 per cent.Ìý

John Galt, president of the Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Association, said there were minimal language changes or other monetary changes.Ìý

Three-year provincial agreements in the ICI sector expired April 30.Ìý
