Worker dies in Brantford construction site mishap

BRANTFORD, ONT.  — Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has confirmed that a worker was fatally injured on a jobsite in Brantford, Ont. last week.

The workplace was the site of the new Barry Callebaut chocolate factory on Bowery Road. The ministry previously reported the worker was working in the electrical room on Aug. 6 when the injury occurred, and the worker later succumbed to their injury.

The employer at the site is Dunphy Mechanical Limited and the constructor is G.S. Wark Limited.

Two ministry inspectors were immediately assigned and inspected the site, issuing a requirement to G.S. Wark.

On Aug. 8, two ministry inspectors visited the office of the employer to continue the investigation.

One requirement was issued to the owner Barry Callebaut Canada Inc.; one requirement was issued to G.S. Wark; another to the subcontractor Sheridan Electric; and another to the employer Dunphy Mechanical Limited.

The ministry statement said that since the investigation is ongoing, the ministry is not able to provide further information at this time.
