On this week’s episode of TCR Express, Journal of Commerce staff writer Russell Hixson and digital media editor Warren Frey look at the increasingly scarce land available for industrial use in the Lower Mainland. With Vancouver hemmed in by the U.S. border, mountains and the ocean there’s very little land available and Russell spoke with real estate firm Avison Young about the problem and what innovative solutions are underway to introduce industrial sites to different parts of the region. Russell also talks about a recent COVID-19 outbreak on a worksite and the ongoing effects of the pandemic on the industry.
Daily Commercial News staff writer Don Wall recently covered the unveiling of the new Skilled Trades Ontario program which replaces the Ontario College of Trades and he’s also reporting on a new system for dealing with utilities as part of major transit projects. DCN staff writer Angela Gismondi spoke to Toronto & York Region Labour Council president and co-founder and co-chair of the Toronto Community Benefits Network John Cartwright, who is retiring. Angela is also working on story about Durham College’s new construction management program.
