Campaign day 22: Party leaders on the go
The main federal party leaders have released the following agendas for today. Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole makes an announcement in Ottawa in the morning and holds a virtual town hall in the evening; Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is in Montreal where he makes an announcement in the morning and participates in a virtual volunteer town hall in the afternoon; and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh makes an announcement about climate policy in Toronto in the morning.
​Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåion productivity inched up in Q2
Statistics Canada reported Friday that labour productivity in the construction sector increased 1.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2021 over the first quarter. Real GDP in the sector was up 1.2 per cent in that time; hours worked dropped 0.1 per cent; and total compensation per hour worked was up 3.4 per cent. Overall, in the economy, labour costs per unit of output of Canadian businesses rose 2.7 per cent in the second quarter, following slight increases in the previous two quarters. This was the highest quarterly growth rate in a year.
Ballard Power signs truck deal with Quantron
Ballard Power and Quantron today announced a strategic partnership to accelerate development of zero-emission fuel-cell technologies in the truck market. Quantron is active in electric vehicle integration. Initial collaboration will focus on the integration of Ballard’s FCmove heavy-duty fuel-cell power modules into Quantron’s electric drivetrain and vehicles including a 44-tonne heavy-duty truck and a municipal waste-collection truck.
​Enbridge acquires Gulf Coast assets
Calgary’s Enbridge Inc. today announced it has entered into a purchase agreement with EnCap Flatrock Midstream to acquire Moda Midstream Operating LLC for U.S. $3 billion in cash, subject to closing adjustments. The acquisition will support the company’s U.S. Gulf Coast export strategy with access to the Permian and Eagle Ford basins. A key asset in the deal is the Ingleside Energy Center, to be renamed the Enbridge Ingleside Energy Center near Corpus Christi, Texas, North America’s largest crude export terminal.
