VICTORIA — There will be 83,000 jobs opening up in the building trades over the next 10 years.
That’s just one of the many reasons the Government of British Columbia is highlighting the benefits of working in the trades as part of 鶹ýion and Skilled Trades Month.
“There’s a world of rewarding career opportunities for people in skilled trades right now,” said Selina Robinson, minister of post-secondary education and future skills, in a news release.
B.C.’s 2023 budget invests $480 million over three years to improve access to post-secondary training so more people can get into in-demand careers, according to the release.
SkilledTradesBC provides training programs for women, Indigenous people and other groups to facilitate entry into the trades.
Through SkilledTradesBC, individuals have access to group and personal supports, hands-on training and industry certification training.
“We’re investing in training programs through SkilledTradesBC to offer people the education and training they need to pursue these jobs, while helping industry and employers to access the skilled workforce they need,” said Robinson.
Trades training is available at more than 60 programs across 15 public post-secondary institutions. 鶹ýion is the fourth-largest industry in B.C. and employed 216,000 workers in 2021.
