Baltej Dhillon appointed chair of WorkSafeBC’s board of directors

VICTORIA — WorkSafeBC has announced Baltej Dhillon has been appointed the new chair of its board of directors.

Dhillon has been a member of the board since 2017 and is the first South Asian Canadian to take on the role, according to a news release.

He replaces Jeff Parr, who was chair from August 2020 to June 2023.

Dhillon served for more than 30 years as a police officer and worked in intelligence, special enforcement, protective services and was a part of investigations for the Air India task force and the Pickton case. He was the first member of the RCMP to wear a turban as part of the uniform.

Dhillon also received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals for community service.

“I am excited to begin working as chair with my fellow board members and WorkSafeBC staff to continue making progress in improving the workers’ compensation system to meet the needs of workers, employers and other throughout the province,” Dhillon said in the release.
