REGINA, SASK. – On Dec. 11, Robert Jones was found guilty in the Estevan Provincial Court for a violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020. This conviction follows an incident that occurred on Jan. 21, 2022, near Griffin, Sask., resulting in serious injuries to a worker.
The violation pertains to subsection 11-13(3) of the regulations, which prohibits the operator of powered mobile equipment from moving any part of the equipment in a manner that may endanger a worker. The specific incident involved a worker hurt after being pinched between a water truck and a payloader.
As a result of the guilty plea, the court imposed a fine of $2,000 on Jones, along with a surcharge of $800, totalling $2,800 in penalties. Additionally, one other charge related to the incident was withdrawn.
