VRCA Silver Award winners a shining example of B.C. construction

The Vancouver Regional 麻豆传媒高清ion Association (VRCA) has announced the Silver Award winners for its 2018 Awards of Excellence.

The awards encompass the association鈥檚 member companies and focuses on industrial, commercial and institutional projects from across British Columbia.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the awards, which will feature 49 Silver Award winners in 15 project categories.

鈥淭his year, we received a record-setting 205 nominations with a total construction value of more than $2 billion dollars. As judges, we were impressed by how companies overcame a range of challenges, from engineering and design firsts to building in difficult weather conditions,鈥 said VRCA Awards of Excellence committee chairman Tony Everett in a statement.

The Silver Award winners in the General Contractors 鈥 Tenant Improvement category are Canadian Turner 麻豆传媒高清ion Company for the Metro Vancouver Headquarters; ETRO 麻豆传媒高清ion for Parq Vancouver; ICE Development Ltd. for the BCLS Park Royal Shopping Centre; and Ledcor 麻豆传媒高清ion Limited for the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World in Tsawwassen.

In the General Contractors 鈥 Under $15 Million category, Jacob Bros. 麻豆传媒高清ion Inc. won for their own construction office and maintenance facility and Peter Kiewit Sons ULC won for the Powell Spillgate Rehabilitation Installation. Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd. took a silver award for the Viterra Pacific Terminal Ship Loading System Upgrade.

Smith Bros. & Wilson (B.C.) Ltd took two silver awards in the General Contractors 鈥 $15 million to $50 million category for the Surrey Biofuel Facility project and the West Vancouver Public Service and Municipal Hall Building, while Graham 麻豆传媒高清ion and Engineering LP won for the Metrotown Station and Exchange Upgrade. Graham Infrastructure LP also won for the Burrard Bridge Rehabilitation. Rounding out the category is Urban One 麻豆传媒高清ion Management Inc. for their work on UBC Brock Commons Phase 1 Student Residence.

In the General Contractors 鈥 Over $50 Million category, EllisDon Corporations鈥 work on the Emily Carr University of Art + Design; ITC 麻豆传媒高清ion Group with 3 Civic Plaza; Ledcor 麻豆传媒高清ion Limited鈥檚 BC Children鈥檚 and BC Women鈥檚 Redevelopment Project Phase 2; and Fraser River Pile and Dredge (GP)鈥檚 work on the Fairview Container Terminal鈥檚 Phase 2 North Expansion all won Silver Awards.

 

Parq Vancouver, adjacent to BC Place, won multiple Silver Awards of Excellence from the Vancouver Regional 麻豆传媒高清ion Association, including ETRO 麻豆传媒高清ion in the General Contractors 鈥 Tenant Improvement category; Glastech Glazing Contractors Ltd. with the Founder鈥檚 Trade award; Ebenisterie Beaubois for the Director鈥檚 Trade award; PMB Joint Venture for the Mechanical Contractors 鈥 Up to $3 Million and Mechanical Contractors 鈥 Over $9 Million categories; and Houle Electric for the Electrical Contractors 鈥 Over $5 Million category.

The President鈥檚 Trade Award, which covers trade contractor projects from $1 million to $3 million, saw Columbia Glazing Systems Inc. win for Five Ten Seymour, Keith Panel Systems (KPS) for the Polygon Gallery and Rufus Enterprises Ltd. for the Tsawwassen Bas Pro Shops Outdoor World.

In the $3 million to $7 million Founder鈥檚 Trade Award category, Glastech Glazing Contractors Ltd. won for Parq Vancouver, Phoenix Glass Inc. took an award for 1245 Harwood and West Coast Cutting & Coring Group Ltd. won for the Ruskin Dam and Powerhouse Upgrade Project, as well as taking a Director鈥檚 Trade Award for projects over $7 million for a different component of the same project.

The Director鈥檚 Trade Award also went to Ebenisterie Beaubois for their work on Parq Vancouver and to Starline Windows for 3 Civic Plaza.

Parq Vancouver also netted PMB Joint Venture an award in the Mechanical Contractors 鈥 Up to $3 Million category. Other winners in that category were Black & McDonald for work on the Metrotown Station and Exchange Upgrade and Gisborne Industrial 麻豆传媒高清ion Ltd. for the BC Hydro Wahleach Powerhouse Fire Protection System.

In the Mechanical Contractors 鈥 $3 million to $9 Million category, Division 15 Mechanical Ltd. won for the West Vancouver Public Service & Municipal Hall Building, Sentrax Mechanical won for Ellsworth and Trotter & Morton Building Technologies Inc. won for the UBC Brock Commons Phase 1 Student Residence.

For Mechanical Contractors 鈥 Over $9 Million, the winners were Fred Welsh Ltd. for the BC Children鈥檚 and BC Women鈥檚 Redevelopment Project Phase 2, PMB Joint Venture for Parq Vancouver and Sentrax Mechanical for 3 Civic Plaza.

Houle Electric swept across all the electrical contractor categories, winning in the Up to $2 Million category for Victoria International Airport鈥檚 HBS Recapitalization Project; in the $2 Million to $5 Million category for the Fairview Container Terminal 鈥 Phase 2 North Expansion; and in the Over $5 Million category for both Emily Carr University of Art + Design and Parq Vancouver.

Other winners in the Electrical Contractors 鈥 Up to $2 Million category were Status Electrical Corporation for the Fraser Valley Cancer 鈥 ACU & Chemo Expansion Phase 1 and Western Pacific Enterprises for the Deltaport Rail Maintenance Building.

The other Electrical Contractors 鈥 $2 Million to $5 million awards went to Western Pacific Enterprises for the Campbell River Water Treatment Building and the Johnson Street Bridge.

Allteck Line Contractors Inc. won in the Electrical Contractors 鈥 Over $5 Million category for the Shinish-Pennask 34.5kV project.

In the Manufacturers and Suppliers category, Amico Accessories Inc. won for work on the BC Children鈥檚 and BC Women鈥檚 Redevelopment Project Phase 2; Engineered Assemblies won for the Langara College Science and Technology Building; and Holmes and Brakel took an award for their work on Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

The Silver Award winners will be highlighted at the Awards of Excellence gala on Oct. 23, where one Silver Award winner from each category will be recognized as a Gold Award winner.

A Life Membership award will also be given out at the gala to 鈥渉onour their significant contributions to the industry and the association,鈥 a VRCA release stated.

Outstanding Achievement awards will also be given in the categories of Lifetime Achievement, Education Leadership, Outstanding Woman in 麻豆传媒高清ion, Innovation and Productivity, Safety, VRCA Member of the Year, U40 Excellence in 麻豆传媒高清ion and 麻豆传媒高清ion Workplace Health and Safety.
