EDMONTON – The City of Edmonton is launching its Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) permanently on Oct. 17.

The CEIP lets residential and commercial property owners access long-term, competitive financing for retrofits such as installing solar photovoltaic systems, upgrading insulation or improving heating and cooling systems, a City of Edmonton release said.

The financed amount is then repaid through the owners’ property taxes.

“Edmontonians are deeply committed to building a sustainable future, and the Clean Energy Improvement Program is a key part of our efforts to transition to emission-neutral buildings and enhance the quality of life in our city. By making energy-efficient and renewable energy upgrades more accessible, we are taking meaningful steps towards our goal of becoming a climate-resilient city,” Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi said in a statement.

In May 2024 Edmonton City Council approved the bylaw to formally create the permanent program following a successful pilot program in 2022.
