OTTAWA<\/span>\u00a0 \u2014 <\/span>Mark Carney has been officially sworn in as Canada’s 24th prime minister in a ceremony at Rideau Hall, about an hour after Justin Trudeau formally resigned.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Carney told reporters on his way into the ceremony that his government is focused and ready to get to work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The new Liberal government has 24 ministers, including Carney, and includes a mix of Trudeau-era ministers and new faces.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Members of the core team that has been in charge of handling U.S.-Canada relations since Donald Trump returned to the White House are still in cabinet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They include M\u00e9lanie Joly, Fran\u00e7ois-Philippe Champagne, David McGuinty and Dominic LeBlanc.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This cabinet is expected to be in place when a general election is launched \u2014 likely before March 24, the date Parliament is set to resume.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
