SNC-Lavalin signs U.K. sustainability contract
SNC-Lavalintoday announced ithas been appointed by theU.K. governmentto consult onthe government’s net zero agenda. TheNet Zero and Life Cycle Replacement Programaims toensure that over four-million square feet of public sector office space meetsenhanced sustainability standards. The six-year contract is with SNCL Engineering Services.
Feds to consult on EI
FederalMinister of EmploymentCarla Qualtroughhasannounced thatthe federal government willlaunchconsultations on longer-term EI improvements in August.TheJuly 19 statement noted the government will be focused on implementingEIreformsannounced in Budget 2021over the next year so further reforms would not be introduced before late 2022.“The immediate focus of the consultations will be on improving access to EI by examining systemic gaps exposed by COVID19.”
Etruscus acquires Newfoundland gold project
Vancouver-basedEtruscusResources Corp. today announced it has acquired an option to earn a 100-per-cent interest in the Lewis Gold Property in central Newfoundland. Theproperty consists of two claim blockswithinthe Peyton Linear gold trendtotalling25.67 squarekilometres.Initial plans are property-wide geochemical soil sampling with more targeted and detailed soil sampling, mapping and survey work later this field season.
Affordable housing for Durham
The federal government this morning announced it willspend $10.3 million to create 41 new affordable homesinOntario’sDurhamRegion through the Cities Streamofthe government’sexpanded Rapid Housing Initiative.The units will be allotted tothose in precarious housing situations.Durham Regional Council has adopted a goal of ending chronic homelessness in the region by 2024.
