TORONTO — The Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development announced it has invited 2,844 candidates with work experience in the skilled trades to apply to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s (OINP) Express Entry Skilled Trades stream.
The invitations followed the recent announcement by the federal government of the first round of trades eligible for category-based Express Entry selection.
On Aug. 3, targeted notifications of interest were issued to carpenters, electricians and general construction workers, among other trades. The results and further information will be posted on the ministry shortly.
The 2,844 candidates required a minimum comprehensive ranking system score of 250 to be eligible for the current invitation round. The top 10 National Occupation Codes invited were 72204, telecommunications line and cable installers and repairers; 72106, welders and related machine operators; 72024, supervisors, motor transport and other ground transit operators; 72310, carpenters; 72400, construction millwrights and industrial mechanics; 72014, contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers and servicers; 73112, painters and decorators (except interior decorators); 73102, plasterers, drywall installers and finishers and lathers; 73200, residential and commercial installers and servicers; and 72410, automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics and mechanical repairers.
Others invited included 73201, general building maintenance workers and building superintendents; 72101, tool and die makers; 73111, glaziers; 72020, contractors and supervisors, mechanic trades; and 73100, concrete finishers.
Minister Monte McNaughton commented, “We need world-class talent to build a stronger Ontario for generations to come, and we are proud to extend the opportunity to 2,844 more men and women today.”
