Steelcon acquires Hammett Steel

TORONTO — Steelcon Group of Companies has acquired Hammett Steel, a structural and miscellaneous steel fabricator based in Columbus, Ga.

Hammett’s 200,000 square foot production facility will serve as headquarters for Steelcon’s U.S. operations and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including Steelcon’s SIN beam line, a fully automatic production line for fabricating corrugated web beams.

As production increases, Steelcon estimates the creation of up to 200 highly-skilled manufacturing jobs at the Columbus facility.

Steelcon has a portfolio of more than 15 million square feet of SIN beam projects. SIN beam is exclusive to North America and is similar in concept to a steel plate girder in that it is made up of flat plate flanges and a web, indicates a release. The only difference is that rather than a flat plate web, SIN beam uses a corrugated web, resulting in a light and efficiently manufactured steel beam with higher load capacity to weight ratio due to the sinusoidal shape.
