This week on the Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇåion Record podcast digital media editor Warren Frey speaks to Nancy Novak, the chief innovation officer and senior vice-president of construction for Compass Datacenters, a Dallas-based firm that builds custom, move-in ready data centers for a variety of clients in both the U.S. and Canada.
With the emergence of COVID-19, demand for data centers has risen but Novak said a good part of the world has no access to the internet and data centers can help address this need. She added centers can be built almost anywhere as long as they have access to power and fiber and added edge cases currently utilize satellites and other technologies to equalize access to information, a trend she said will continue.
Novak also pointed out many data centers require a high degree of physical security and while they can consume significant resources the industry is moving towards more sustainable facilities.
