Monday, July 12 will be marked as a tragic day in B.C.’s construction history.
Five people were killed after a crane that was being dismantled collapsed at the Brooklyn Bernard Block project, a 25-storey tower being developed by Mission Group in downtown Kelowna. Four of the victims were construction workers, the fifth was not associated with the site and was buried in rubble while working in a nearby office building. All of them had just gone to do their jobs that day. As a result of this tragedy, construction stakeholders have spoken out, expressing condolences and looking for answers. Friends and family members have started fundraisers, and both industry and community have banded together to honour the victims. The following is a compilation of Journal of Commerce coverage of the tragedy as we continue to follow this story.
